In 19th century China, girls had their feet bound and lived a life secluded from the outside world. Two such girls in a remote small county, Snow Flower (Jeon) and Lily (Li) grow up together as laotongs (girls of the same age matched up for their similar temperament, who are sworn to a lifelong friendship) according to the traditional folk custom.
