Tai Chi tells the classical story of a martial arts master's journey from zero to hero, and its first two installments – neatly named Tai Chi 0 and Tai Chi Hero, respectively – were produced and subsequently released back-to-back in 3D.
Set in the chaotic early-19th century China, Tai Chi 0 follows martial arts prodigy Yang Luchan (Yuan Xiaochao), a goofy young man born with a special gift that, when triggered, turns him temporarily into an invincible fighter. Unfortunately, that untamed superpower is lethal for Luchan, and to save his life, he is advised to go to the Chen village to learn their school of tai chi. However, the villagers are forbidden to teach their kung fu to outsiders, and the hapless boy learns it the hard way when he tries to force his way in.
